The Challenge
Access to reliable sanitation is a significant challenge in many informal settlements, where infrastructure is often limited. In Macassar and Strandfontein, Cape Town, this lack of essential services highlighted the need for sustainable and self-sufficient solutions.
The Solution
To address this issue, we installed two fully off-grid solar energy systems to power self-sustaining Clear Enviro Loo Recirculation toilet facilities. By utilising a robust Victron system combined with high-efficiency solar panels and a wind turbine, these installations generate reliable, renewable power—day and night. The hybrid design ensures continuous operation, even in less sunny conditions, providing a dependable and eco-friendly solution for the community.
The Outcome
The installation of these off-grid energy systems has provided a consistent and sustainable power supply to the toilet facilities in Macassar and Strandfontein. This solution not only enhances access to reliable sanitation but also supports the community’s well-being by leveraging renewable energy resources.
